THE NYAPE can attest to providing more than one hundred years of educational leadership as its vision has been and continues to be one of fostering professional expertise in the many facets of education. Its members comprised of school building, district, state education and university leaders have contributed to the credibility of the organization.
A member and current Director of the Academy is Dr. Craig Markson Assistant Dean, Lecturer, and Educational Leadership Program Director with The School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University. He is responsible for off- campus graduate programs that meet the professional development needs of in-service K-12 teachers.
Dr. Markson earned his ED. D. from Dowling College. His prolific research and writings on Modes of Instruction K-12, Parental Education on Academic Achievement, Holding the Test Makers Accountable, The Opt – Out Movement and more, provide much insight to school boards, district leaders, building leaders to examine with stakeholders from the community the effects on school atmosphere and its implications for teaching and learning. Recognition for Craig’s research is evidenced in his many published writings.
Dr. Markson teaches Educational Leadership Research Project Seminar and Fundamentals of Technology in Higher Education Administration at Stony Brook University. Dr. Markson’s research Interests include the efficacy of online learning in the context of school Leadership preparation, state assessments, teacher evaluations and the relationships among poverty and academic achievement.
Dr. Markson has served on The Oceanside, Port Washington, Long Beach, Massapequa, South Country, South Huntington, Middle Country and Middle- East Suffolk NYS Teacher Center Policy Boards. Additionally, he serves on the Eastern Suffolk Boces Accreditation for Growth Council.
Dr. Markson’s impressive experience, wealth of knowledge and Research continue to be invaluable resources to the educational community at large. The NYAPE is proud of and appreciative to Craig as an eminent and dedicated member.
