Being a good leader is all about having a genuine willingness and a true commitment to lead others to achieve a common vision and goals. In the words of John Calvin Maxwell, renowned American author “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”
During this very trying and unprecedented period of COVID-19, our past president, Dr. Giovanna Delucchi demonstrated the many qualities of an effective leader. Her confidence, commitment, focus and drive maintained the team morale to keep moving forward. Changes in the plans of The Academy for conducting “business as usual” demonstrated further her special ability to appreciate and trust her Academy team.
Dr. Delucchi’s accomplishments include her current position as Principal of Jonas Bronck Pre-K- Grade 5 PS 43 in the south Bronx for the past sixteen years; Cahn Fellow at Teacher’s College Columbia University; Mentor in The Leadership Academy of Aspiring Principals, development of early childhood programs and programs for special needs students and devising and implementing remote learning opportunities for students from March 2020 through the present due to COVID-19.
Self-driven to always work harder Giovanna pursued and earned a PH.D in School Administration at Fordham University, Master’s Degree and Professional Diploma at Manhattan College. Among her many special interests are cooking, baking, reading, and family life. Giovanna has travelled extensively as well to Italy, France, Vienna, Caribbean Islands and many places in The United States.
Giovanna’s perseverance and many life experiences have enabled her, as president, to effectively motivate members of The New York Academy of Public Education. As expressed by a prestigious Academy Member “Dr. Delucchi carried our banner beautifully for several years.”
